Meditations on the Journey

Preface
I am a liberal.
I am also a follower of Jesus Christ.
I accepted the salvation that God provides to us all through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus, while I was in jail for some serious crimes.
Because of His love for me, a sinner, He lifted that burden off my back and set me free on December 10, 1970, at about 10:00 AM. I was, out of desperation, reading the book of Romans in a New Testament that another inmate had left behind.
The passages that popped out of the pages for me were these:
Rom 3:10 as it is written: “there is no righteous person, not even one;
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Rom 10:9 if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
Therefore, in the following articles I will be illuminating, from a biblical perspective, why I’m a liberal.
Every issue that I address will be supported by Bible references. I use several different Bible translations and try to use the one that is easiest to understand.
The writer of the book of Hebrews states:
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
It is God’s Word that tells us how to live a life of love and compassion for all and display the “fruit of the Spirit” as enumerated in the apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Galatia. In which he states:
Gal 5:22 the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Let me ask a simple question. Where have you seen these qualities in our current government administration or its most ardent followers?
Sadly, the only attributes that we’ve seen coming from this corrupt and vile administration are also listed in Paul’s letter to the church at Galatia. Paul states:
Gal 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions,
Gal 5:21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
These passages lay the foundation for the kind of life that we are to live as exemplified by the Lord Jesus himself; a life of love and compassion toward all people.
Unfortunately, there are many people in our land who say that they are “Christians,” but their lives betray that statement.
Our Lord Himself stated:
Mat 7:16 “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they?
Mat 7:17 “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Mat 7:19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 7:20 “So then, you will know them by their fruits. (See above for what “fruits” Jesus is talking about.)
Within these few articles I will attempt to show, in practical terms, the kind of attitudes and actions that God expects from those who say that they follow Jesus and His teachings.
